Here is a simple and delicious creamy ranch dressing recipe that also works great as a dip. It is quick and easy to make, and is much, much healthier than store bought salad dressing!
Since ranch dressing contains milk products, the store bought dressing has to have loads of preservatives not to spoil.
So- just make it yourself and stay away from all those chemicals!!
The recipe was originally developed by Hidden Valley Ranch owners Steve and Gayle Henson and has since become the most popular dressing in USA.
Ranch dressing is made with buttermilk and mayonnaise as a base, mixed with herbs –fresh or dried- and spices.
You could also use yogurt instead of buttermilk- it makes the dressing a bit more "tangy" and fresh. I often use Greek yogurt with a little water mixed in for the right consistency, so it's not too thick.
Ranch dressing is really a very easy dressing to make on your own, and lasts for up 5 days in the fridge. You could also substitute some of the mayonnaise for Greek yogurt for an even healthier version.
You can use fresh herbs or dried, whatever you like or have available. I like the dried best for my dressings, but here are two versions; one with dried and one with fresh herbs. See which one you like best!
The dressing needs to be refrigerated for at least 30 min. so the flavors will have the time to develop.
Mix together and refrigerate for 30 min. You can also add 1/2 tsp. dried dill if you like.
Mix all ingredients. :)
