Ready for a picnic?
Here are some vegetarian picnic ideas and tips to help you get out there, among the birds and the trees!
I had forgotten that having a picnic is such a simple pleasure. It is an easy way to enjoy nature wherever you are; by the sea, on a mountain, in the forest or by a lake.
Here it is, our summer picnic by a lake in Stockholm, Sweden. Perhaps it looks like a lot of food and stuff, but all was carried easily on our bicycles.
For the perfect vegetarian picnic, my best advice would be to not trying to be perfect. Since, as every kid knows; basically whatever you bring along to eat taste great in the open anyway!
Make it simple and try not to prepare too many different dishes.
Otherwise you will just end up having to carry things twice, once there and then the leftovers back home again...
bring a plastic bag to collect the garbage before you leave. I also always try to
collect whatever garbage I find others have “forgotten”.
If we all did our little share, picnic areas would be all nice and clean everywhere…
If you bring kids along, you may want to go away only a short way and for a shorter while.
Having our teenage son join us this day was such a treat that we did not complain about going home too soon.
It is the small precious and special memories that stay, I hope, and not just because of the quantity of time spent.

Ah, and I recommend swimming before you eat! Food never tastes as good as when you are wrapped in a towel getting warmed by the sun…
