Muesli Recipe

Here is a healthy and simple homemade muesli recipe that can be varied depending on what you have at home and what you like.

Muesli is sometimes mixed up with granola. So what is the difference between muesli and granola?

The difference is that the granola is baked or toasted, whereas the muesli is a raw mix of uncooked grains, nuts, seeds and dried fruits. So, muesli is a tasty way to get some more raw food in your diet as well!

Since seeds, nuts and grains are a vital part of a healthy vegan and vegetarian diet, (as any diet) eating muesli in the morning is an easy way to get important nutrients and fiber every day.

Enjoy Your Muesli Like This

Serve the muesli with some sliced bananas or other fruit, and almond milk or yogurt for a healthy, delicious and quick breakfast. You can also put boiling water on the muesli and let it swell a bit. This makes it a little easier to chew, but still not like porridge.

What's In a Muesli?

A basic muesli contains a blend of:

Grains + Nuts + Seeds

Then, for sweetness you can add dried chopped fruits or berries and perhaps some brown sugar. Some oat or wheat bran for extra fiber and nutrition, and maybe some ground flax seed and coconut flakes.

That’s it! So simple. Add whatever is available and that you love. Here is my recipe:

Homemade Muesli Recipe

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups of dry grain flakes (oat, barley or rye. Use a mix, or only oats.)
  • 1 cup raw nuts, chopped (any you like)
  • 1/2 cup bran
  • 1/2 cup seeds (like sunflower or pumpkin)
  • 1/2 cup dried berries or fruit (raisins, figs, dates etc.)
  • Optional: ¼ cup brown sugar

Here’s What To Do

Mix it all together and store in a pretty glass container on the counter top. Serve with sliced bananas and almond milk for a quick, healthy and vegan breakfast.
